Georgie Wheeler, (MA Cantab, PGCE, Dip HIC, MBACP, MUKCP) Humanistic, Integrative and Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

I work with Adults, Children and Young People in private practice in Wimborne and Poole. I work Mon - Fri 9- 5, term time only (largely).

Whatever has brought you here, I hope you find something useful for you in these pages. Sometimes things can feel overwhelming and yet it can be easy to diminish our feelings and bury them for another day. My invitation to you is to listen to your feelings and whatever you do with them have compassion for yourself while you do it. Have a look around the website and if you have any questions, get in touch.

ADULTS
I offer a non judgemental, safe and secure place in which you will be treated with empathy, warmth and with no expectations. My approach is informed by neuroscience, IPNB and relational intergrative therapy. I believe that a healthy mind is an integrated mind and that therapy can facilitate this integration leading to a solid and felxible self that can withstand more easily the trials of life as a human being. I have felt the benefits, first hand of mindfulness and self compassion as well as what a difference it can make when we listen to all of ourselves with all that we are. It is of paramount importance to me that you feel safe and secure and not uncomfortable in our work. As a result I encourage honest feedback from you whenever you feel you want to share it.
I largely work in school term times only, but can often be flexible and offer a blend of zoom and face to face through part of the school holidays if we feel that you need more time.
CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

Children and Young people may find life hard for a number of reasons. Situations, events, relationships, change or loss are all examples of reasons a child or young person might need a safe space to go to explore what is going on for them and why they may be experiencing uncomfortable or unsettling feelings.
Through ensuring the young client feels safe and secure, a space is opened up in the counselling room where a young client can start to explore their feelings. After the exploration and expression, strategies can be put in place to help them naviagte their lived experience in a less overwhelming way
I outline below a little of how I work with both children (4-11) and young people (11 - 18).

Young People
Sometimes sitting and staring at someone doesnt make you feel like you want to talk. So I am led by the young person in front of me - We will start with whatever you want and we can take some time for you to get to know me and vice versa. Through this relational approach most young people quickly feel heard and understood as well as beginning to understand a little more how their mind works why: The space is made available for you to start to think and feel your way forwards; empowered to make decisions aboutyour future and relationships from a sense of your integrated, solid and flexible self.
I am a mother of three and have lived and worked in schools all my life. Young people tend to find me easy to be around and I am priviliged to be next to them as they process experiences through play and creativity. I have trained under "I'm Ok, You're Ok" at BCPC, qualifying me to work as a children's therapist. I have a DBS check and a PGCE in English and Drama.
Children
For counselling to help with whatver issues your child is facing, it is vital that they feel safe and relaxed; that things are undemanding but boundaried; free but held.
I use story play, art and drama and anything else that you child is interested in! Through these, your child will process and explore their past, present and their future. Sometimes this exploration is verbalised and at others it remains in the right hemisphere of the brain; somehow allowing an integration and a settling of the mind having worked through fears, anxieties or traumas.
